The Hurst Trader

A personal project which grew and grew ...

The Hurst Trader is a software project which David Hickson started developing in 2005. A project which he thought might take a few months has taken 5 years, and counting! It is a trading software package (i.e. software which advises people as to when to buy and when to sell shares/currencies, any tradable financial market). The process the software uses is inspired primarily by the work of JM Hurst, which involves Cyclic Analysis. There are also influences from other trading analysts, particularly those who have developed the work of Hurst. The trading software package is in fact a small part of a larger project called The Money Process, which is a project that deals with the way in which money moves (cyclically) in our lives.

David Hickson

A filmmaker and trader

I'm a filmmaker by profession, a director of film and television drama, as well as multi-camera television shows (such as TV shows like Strictly Come Dancing / Dancing with the Stars, Big Brother, Awards shows, Music concerts and Beauty pageants – I directed Miss World 2007).

If you’d like to check out a movie I made, take a look at Beat the Drum's website.

I’m a South African, and the film industry in South Africa has left me with some time for hobbies and other interests! Fortunately I have many interests, and two of them come together in The Hurst Trader:

  • Trading (of any variety: stock market; forex; futures; commodities)
  • Coding computer software

I believe that computers are the "thinking machines" that Alan Turing dreamed of back in the early 20th century. I further believe that we haven’t even begun to see what computers can do, that with the right software programming computers can replicate the thought patterns of humans, albeit in a limited one-dimensional way. Hence the name: Sentient Code. It is a mission of mine to produce computer code which (at least superficially) appears to "think". Sentient Code is a division of my software company "Fortuna Software". Take a look at my first posting in the development blog for more of my background.
